Travel Advice

Try to plan your breaks in as far advance as possible. This will allow you to work out exactly where and when you want to travel to particular destinations. Unfortunately as a teacher your most convenient time to travel is during the school break (it seems like every family in the UK) which can often mean that the cost of your holiday can increase because you are travelling peak season. The main points to consider when you are planning your travel itinerary are:

  • Climate
  • Season
  • Language Spoken
  • Customs/rituals
  • Local Law
  • Local Cuisine (be careful if you are vegetarian and you can’t understand the language)
  • Accommodation availability
  • Transport Services and
  • Visa Status (do you have permission to enter and visit this country?)

Travelling and living in a foreign country can be confusing, dangerous and a whole lot of fun. Always try to learn basic phrases in the spoken language of the countries in which you are visiting. Locals appreciate it when you make an effort to fit in with their way of life. How do you feel when a complete stranger speaks to you in your home country in a language you have no understanding of? Everybody appreciates it when you make the effort.
