Opening a Bank Account
Opening a Bank Account in the UK can prove difficult if you don't provide the correct information. Your bank account can usually be organised on the day that you register in the UK. You will need to take the following 3 documents with you:
- Employment Referral Letter (with approx yearly earnings)
- Your Passport
- Proof of your UK address (please read below)
Your proof of UK address can be one of the following documents:
- A letter from a relative or friend stating that you are staying at their address along with proof of the signatory’s address in the form of a utility bill or bank statement. Do not use any temporary wording or your application for a bank account will be declined. These documents must be no older than six months and they must be originals (no reminder notes!)
- A UK tenancy agreement form signed by yourself and your Landlord
- A letter from your employer confirming a UK address (valid only if they are a PL Company or Local Authority) or
- An Australian bank account statement with a UK mailing address. (The address that you give to the bank can be changed as soon as you are issued your bank account)
