Advice for Teachers

It's not every day one offers advice to teachers but as ex-teachers and those who've been in the industry, we've collated a few essential tidbits to help you hit the ground running.

If you are about to begin working in an Education System with GCSE's, EBD,s, LEA's, NQT's, QTS's and PSHE's (just to name a few), you should make yourself aware of these terms as soon as you can. The Queens English may be spoken in the UK but the Education System parlance needs a bit of studying!

Things do happen differently in the UK. Lunchtime usually involves a sit down hot meal for most students. It is a welcome change especially on a cold winter’s day and a far cry from the humble packed lunch that Aussie, Kiwi and Canadian kids make do with.

Ethnic diversity varies a lot depending on where you teach so you need to be aware of school demographics. We will help by providing you a full school profile before you undertake your placement.

Make sure you dress appropriately and always conduct yourself in a professional and caring manor. School representatives usually show you around to your rooms and if you get stuck there are always students willing to help.
